Here is a description of the procedures performed at Gastroenterology Specialists of DeKalb:

Colonoscopy
An endoscopic procedure done to evaluate diseases of the colon. This is the standard for screening for of colon cancer and removal of polyps. Also used to evaluate rectal bleeding and other symptoms of the lower GI tract.

EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
An endoscopic procedure done to evaluate disease of the esophagus, stomach and upper part of the small intestine. Performed on patients with abdominal pain, upper GI bleeding, chronic GERD, suspected ulcers and/or tumors.

ERCP ( Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
An endoscopic procedure used to diagnose and treat abdominal pain caused by gallstones in the bile duct and/or pancreatitis.

PEG tube placement and management
An endoscopic procedure done for placement of feeding tube in patients who are no longer able to eat because of neurologic disorders or cancer.

Capsule Endoscopy
A non-invasive, diagnostic proceduren using a "pill camera". Done to evaluate suspected disease of the small bowel, such as Crohn's disease or chronic anemia.
